Full Heating Upgrade at Ryhope Community Centre

When Ryhope Community Centre reached out to us, they were facing a serious challenge: their heating system had completely broken down. For months, the building which was used daily by children, elderly residents, and local activity groups, had been without reliable heating.

Commercial Boiler Install at Ryhope Community Centre

The Challenge

The existing system was outdated and inefficient, and simply not even running anymore. It relied on aging cast iron radiators and a large industrial boiler that had long passed its prime. With no central heating, the centre had been forced to depend on electric heaters, an expensive and unsustainable stopgap.

As a charity-funded organisation, budget constraints were a major concern. Several companies had already quoted for the work, but costs were unrealistically high. Some proposals even included oversized boiler systems or alternative warm air solutions that didn’t align with the centre’s actual needs or budget.

Our Approach

At Warm Dynamo, we took a different route.

Our surveying and design team carried out detailed heat loss calculations to understand the building’s exact heating requirements. Rather than overestimating capacity (and cost), we designed a solution tailored precisely to the centre’s energy needs, ensuring optimal performance without unnecessary expense.

The Solution

We recommended installing two 40kW Ideal Vogue Max Combi Boilers, configured across two independent heating zones:

  • Upstairs system – for less frequently used areas, including a large open hall

  • Downstairs system – for high-traffic, daily-use spaces, and smaller rooms

This zoning approach allows the centre to heat only the areas in use, significantly improving energy efficiency and reducing running costs.

The Installation

The full upgrade included:

  • New boilers

  • Modern radiators

  • Complete pipework replacement

Despite the scale of the project, installation was completed in just four weeks, and ahead of schedule.

We understood how vital the centre is to the community, so instead of requiring a full closure (as others had proposed), we worked in phases. This allowed groups to continue using parts of the building throughout the project.

Health and safety remained a top priority. Comprehensive risk assessments (RAMS) were carried out, and our team ensured every space was left clean, safe, and ready for use at the end of each work stage.

Technical Details

The building required different installation approaches:

  • Upstairs: Surface-mounted copper pipework using modern press fittings, carefully chosen to complement the building’s aesthetics

  • Downstairs: A different pipework method suited to the layout and usage demands

End-to-End Delivery

Warm Dynamo managed the entire process:

  • System design and specification

  • Material sourcing

  • Installation and labour

  • Building regulations compliance

  • Final system registration and sign-off

We also provided a full handover, ensuring the team at Ryhope Community Centre understood how to operate and control their new system with ease.

The Results

The transformation has been significant:

  • Reliable, efficient heating throughout the building

  • No more reliance on costly electric heaters

  • Lower energy bills and reduced carbon emissions

  • Greater control with zoned heating systems

  • A more comfortable environment for all users

Most importantly, the centre can now continue its vital role in the community without disruption!

Supporting the Community
